The Japanese Association of Greater Boston (JAGB), originally known as the Japanese Student Association founded in 1908, dates from 1965 and has grown to be one of the largest non-profit organizations for the Japanese community in the greater Boston area. Also in 1975, we established the Japanese Language School of Greater Boston.
Since 1980 each Consul General of Japan in Boston has served as honorary JAGB president during his term. On August 27, 2015, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognized JAGB’s achievements with a commendation for “furthering mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.”
We currently have over 2,000 members.
JAGB’s mission is the provision of network and support for the local Japanese community through education, culture, public welfare, philanthropy, and other activities.
We provide our members with information and services including planning and organizing social events, publishing membership books, and sending out newsletters (three times a year) and event flyers.
JAGB is a 501(c)(3) organization under the terms of the United States Internal Revenue Code.
