Regarding the Relief Fund Donations for the East Japan Great Earthquake by the Japanese Association of Greater Boston

ボストン日本人会は3月11日の地震発生直後から義援金を集める活動をしています。皆様の多大なるご協力により、現在までに77,000ドルを越える寄付が集まっています。
この義援金を100%被災地に届けるために、手数料を取られない、そして免税扱いになるルートを探して参りました。当初は在ボストン日本国総領事館特別口座経由で日本赤十字社に送金できるかどうかを検証して参りましたが、米国の税法上免税の扱いとなる保証が確保できないことが判明しました。
しかし、調査の結果、The Japanese Disaster Relief Fund Boston (JDRFB) に義援金を預ける事により、手数料なし、免税扱いで送金できることが確認でき、4月21日に行われたボストン日本人会役員会でJDRFBへ寄付することが承認されました。このJDRFBはセクション501(c)(3)での非課税機関であるThe Boston Foundation (TBF) により運営されております。

The Japanese Association of Greater Boston has been collecting donations since March 11, when the earthquake hit eastern Japan. With your enormous support, we have so far collected over $77,000.
We had been searching for a way to send 100% of your donations to the disaster victims as tax-exempt transfer with no extra fees or charges. At first, we thought we could send it to the Japanese Red Cross through a special bank account established by the Consulate General of Japan in Boston. Unfortunately, we discovered that according to U.S. tax laws, the Consulate General of Japan in Boston and Japanese Red Cross could not secure a guarantee of tax-exemption.
However, on April 21, after further investigation, we, the Japan Association of Greater Boston, discovered that donations to the Japanese Disaster Relief Fund Boston (JDRFB) would be tax-free with no additional charges, and all of our officers approved that our donations would be sent to Japan via the JDRFB. This JDRFB is managed by The Boston Foundation (TBF) and is a tax-exempt organization as described in Section 501 (C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
We sincerely apologize for a long delay in making this decision.
